Thomas
J. Klutznick, President
Before formation of the MKDG partnership, Mr. Klutznick was president
and later chairman and chief executive officer of Urban Investment
and Development Company, the Chicago-headquartered real-estate subsidiary
of Aetna Life & Casualty. During this period, from 1972 to 1982,
the company: developed Water Tower Place on North Michigan Avenue;
erected office buildings, including Chicago's 333 West Wacker Drive,
Houston's First City Tower and Hartford's CityPlace; completed a second
generation of Chicago-area regional shopping centers (the first generation
had been developed by Mr. Klutznick and his father, the late Philip
M. Klutznick) consisting of Hawthorn Center in Vernon Hills, Fox Valley
Center in Aurora, Orland Square in Orland Park and Stratford Square
in Bloomingdale--and, in the cases of Hawthorn and Fox Valley, developed
adjacent new communities; and directed the restoration of Seattle's
venerable Olympic Hotel.
Beyond
real-estate activities, Mr. Klutznick's interests and involvement
range from economic policy and the environment to education and societal
issues. He is a trustee of the Committee for Economic Development,
a council member of Resources for the Future, trustee emeritus of
the National Building Museum and founder of Roosevelt University's
Institute for Metropolitan Affairs.
